Hi experts,

I have a situation where my car was hit in a parking lot about 1.5 years ago. It wasn’t crazy damage, and I was in a hard spot at the time and did not want to file a claim or pay out of pocket to fix it.

I have the same policy as when it happened, and amended it this year to have a $250 deductible.

Is there a statute of limitations with this, or can I go through insurance to get this fixed now?

Question about time to make a claim

    1. gonna depend on the language in your policy, but generally it says you must either notify them of any claims “promptly” or it gives a specific timeframe in which you must report a claim for it to be valid

if a hard policy deadline hasn’t been breached, it’ll go a long way if you have evidence of when and where the accident happened as well as photos of the damage at that time to prove that you’re only trying to make a claim for damage that resulted from that occurrence and not any additional damage that occurred over time, whether from an additional incident or due to not repairing the damage immediately (such as rust or corrosion)

regardless though, the $250 deductible isn’t going to apply
