How long does it take for payment request to be approved for a claim after settlement?

The adjuster notified me last Wednesday that they submitted my claim for payment. A few questions:

First- what does this process involve? I already signed a settlement letter so why does it still need to be approved?

Second- How long is reasonable for this to be approved?
