For context, when I filed a claim (I have USAA) I was told I don’t have immediate collision coverage but at the same time since my insurance is under my mom&dad, I would hear directly from a claims adjuster about any other type of coverage I might qualify for. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were nothing that I could do to get help fixing the damage but I guess I wanted to hear that straight from someone who knows more about this than I do.

I’ve been driving for 15 years, this was my first accident. 😞

Edit: no one was hurt or injured at all, it was a mild collision. The airbags weren’t even activated.

I caused an accident and don’t have collision coverage, how fucked am I?

    1. You have no coverage to repair your vehicle but may have liability coverage to pay for damages caused to others.

I’m intrigued, you’ve been driving for 15 years, don’t know your insurance, and are still on your parents insurance. Do you still live with them?

    2. Liability coverage pays for the other party’s damages

      collision pays for your own

with no collision, you’re on your own for the damages to your own vehicle. you can expect that

liability might extend, but i agree with the other commenter, it’s uncommon to stay on parent’s policy for 15+ years – do you still live with them and are listed on their policy as a driver?

    3. Driving 15 years and under Mom&Dad’s policy. It’s going to raise their premiums for a while. Hopefully you both live at the same address, and car is parked at the address on the policy.

If you don’t have collision, your car isn’t covered. But others will be up to your PD limit.

    4. If you don’t have collision coverage and caused an accident your insurance would cover damage to the other car. The best thing you can do is start getting estimates for repairs OR determining how much you can trade it in/donate it for.

There is no reason to keep paying registration on a car you can’t drive.

Collision doesn’t matter, just means you need to fix your car. Clearly you didn’t think it was worth it (i.e. your car was a jalopy) so just go down to the used car lot and get a new one, or go to the junk yard and get a replacement door or bumper, or whatever needs replacing.
