I’m being medically retired from AD and I moved back to my HOR in CA. I was stationed in MD and had my HHG shipped for me but also did a PPM. I drove to CA with my wife and 3 kids and the difference between my two weight tickets was about 500lbs. I just got a direct deposit for $1038. Am I crazy or is that completely off from what I should’ve been paid?!

Is my PPM payment for my retirement move wrong?!

You’re paid based on how much weight you move. It appears that you moved almost no weight, so you received a payment based on that.

    2. The moves Ive done have been “middle distance” meaning about halfway from coast to coast. The rate for those is about $1 per pound. My short move was about 75c per pound. All of that was pre-tax. So I’d say that you’re getting $2 after tax, which is pretty good.

    3. Did you not look at the estimated payout when you created the PPM in DPS? Each move is different depending on time of year, distance moved and the weight.

Remember that they withhold for taxes. If they’ve withheld too much versus your marginal rate, it’ll come back to you in your tax return.

    4. Sounds about right for only 500 pounds. Travel and transportation are two separate amounts too, so you should get a decent amount for the other entitlements.
