I personally think LLMs were a breakthrough especially with what OpenAI did with GPT3.5+. But ever since then I feel like the progress has slowed down and it has only linearly improved.
To be clear, I think GPTs were basically a non-linear 10x leap and ever since that we are seeing smaller improvements that are not leaps.
So my assumption is that in the next 10 years, we are going to see a lot of tools and startups that are built around the strengths of AI and the ones built around the weaknesses fail. Because the next 10x leap is not a guarantee anytime soon.
But that debate aside, what do you all think are the strengths and weaknesses of AI atm?
(nervously biting my nails hoping one of the strengths is not what I do at my day job :P)

i think weakness is that it is still too expensive and not specialized for specific tasks. future we might see more trained model trained to do certain tasks. as these specialized LLM robots are depoyed into the phsyical world. we may see novel iRobot becoming a reality.
I believe AI generally performs well with basic tasks, but when you explore certain topics in depth, the responses can become quite generic, leading to a drop in effectiveness. To address this issue, creating specialized AI’s for specific problems or tasks could be a solution. But this problem still exists for now.
LOL. Okay I might be a contrarian but I do not see AI taking over software jobs anytime soon. Bringing this up because this is what a lot of us assume.
I used Cursor religiously for a week, got so fed up and went back to Sublime.
Don’t get me wrong, AI is great at writing small chunks of code when the requirements and context is straightforward, but you can clearly see that it really doesn’t logically understand a lot once you start giving biggest tasks.
That said, I think AI will replace cheap graphic designers, and a lot of marketing people. For example, Playground generates art better than most cheap designers you can hire off Fiverr. Similarly Wosily
