What helped me was just being inside my head all the time. There was this period in my life where all I thought about everyday no matter what I was doing from the second I woke up thinkin about what I wanted to do and how it would work.
And I just got it one day and rode with it.

Think about the biggest challenge you have. Think about all the parts of it. Now, think about something ridiculous that has nothing to do with your challenge. Figure out how they are alike or how elements could work together. Try multiple ideas… it will stretch your mind and creativity. From book Whack on the Side of the Head
