So I've been driving daily for work for a few years now. I drive between different locations but I don't deliver any company products with my vehicle or anything like that. I'm on the clock the whole time I'm driving except driving home and driving to work in the morning. My company carries seperate insurance for this while I'm on the clock and I have personal insurance for my vehicle. Back when I started with this company they never mentioned needing to carry business insurance and I sent my policy to them to put on record and everything was okay with them.

I'm just now learning about business insurance and I'm not sure if I need to have this on my vehicle or not. I was in an at-fault accident last year and told them I was driving for work when it happened and they never said anything about it and paid out my loss. The other party has filed a lawsuit against me and both my personal insurance attorney and company's insurance attorney have been notified and I still haven't heard anything about any issues with my policy.

Am I doing something wrong coverage wise or will my company's insurance handle it from here? Since my company is insuring me while on the clock I don't see an issue but I'm not sure if there is anything I need to do on my end. Thanks!

    1. Depends on the insurance company but most consider this personal use as long as you’re not transporting goods or people related to your work.

You company should be carrying hired and non-owned auto coverage in case you are in an accident and they get wrapped up in liability.
