I am currently in the middle of submitting an application for my first apartment in the military and just had my BAH approved, but the landlord called me back saying that my previous pay stubs that I submitted to them wasn’t reflecting that income and my application was subject to denial unless I could have a letter typed up from the command stating that I am receiving BAH starting from [start date] paid to the amount of [$xxxx] and would not be changing in the future. The landlord wanted a letterhead and have it signed with a POC. Is that something feasible? I was thinking of asking my pay and personnel to write a memo. Let me know what you all think.

    1. How do you know your BAH is approved?

Whatever document you have stating it is approved might suffice. If not, you can do up a memo and have someone in your unit sign off on it. (Recommend you work with your NCOs on it, rather than going rogue.)

    2. When you go onto MyPay in the DFAS website, go to the top left and bring up the drop down menu. Select “Personal Statement of Military Compensation (PSMC)” and turn that into the landlord. That should include everything and suffice.

    3. Yes it’s feasible. Your pay and personnel office should have templates for the memo; it’s not an uncommon request.

    4. Yup, it is pretty standard for your admin or pay and personnel department to write you a memo if requested.
