New business partner asked to share a hotel room for a convention

Hello all,

I am entering a new business with a partner. Buying a portion of his business, but the deal is not complete yet.

As we are getting to know each other, he invited me to a out of town industry convention It looks like a great opportunity to get a lot of valuable information in our industry, network, and learn about each other so I’ve agreed excitedly.

The hotel where the convention is held is way out of my budget so I plan to get another hotel within the area. He returned saying let’s get a room together to save costs.

I appreciate the idea but would be far more comfortable in my own room. Maybe I’m overthinking this but how should I tell him in a constructive positive way? I am a male too btw.

I’m thinking I should either be honest and just say I’ll need my own space to decompress after a long day networking or some friends are saying I should just lie?

Any help in constructing the message would be greatly appreciated!
