I'm living through one of those AHA moments that you get when one of your blind spots gets completely annihilated. I'm always on a hunt to eliminate my blind spots. But this one must have been the size of an elephant that I could never see.

I used to hate cold calling up until recently. But about a week ago I discovered just how fucking wrong I was about that. It's UNBELIEVABLE.

Long story short, about a week ago I had an epiphany about cold calling. So, I decided to try something out. I took about a day to develop my cold-call sales script. And the initial results were encouraging. On average, for every 7 business owners I was talking to, I was scheduling 1 meeting.

But then I revamped my sales script. And now I only need to talk to 3 or so business owners (on average) to secure one meeting. Sometimes I have to talk to 3, sometimes to 5 to get a meeting. But sometimes: one call = one meeting.

    HOLY SHIT!

I now officially declare: As far as cold calling is concerned
I was blind but now I can see. 😂

    .

    P.S.
It's true, I'm a marketing guy. But sales via cold-calling is a very different skill set. Up until a week ago I always stayed away from anything even remotely associated with cold calling as far as possible. So, it was a big revelation when I realized just how wrong I was. Oh, and I have nothing to sell. This post is just a sort of "celebration dance". And could hopefully motivate someone. I'm scheduling 15-minute video chats with them. Although in my calendar invite, I'm saying that the meeting might take up to 30 minutes. But 15 minutes is really all that's needed to check if that's gonna be a potential client or not.

My epiphany came after watching a bunch of Youtube videos on cold calling. And then I decided to try it out. That's it. What I can say though, there's one guy on Youtube who's constantly bragging that he made "50,000" cold calls or "60,000" cold calls etc. But after watching 2 of his videos, my opinion is: he has absolutely no fucking clue about cold calling. Because a number of things he said there would never work in real life. In my opinion. I mean, everything "can" work if you make an insane number of calls. But in my opinion, that particular guy who's bragging about having made "60,000" cold calls or something… just the way he's suggesting to say things would turn off a large number of people immediately.

always hated cold calling but now… HOLY SHIT!

    1. I’ve used cold calling for my entire working career in sales. For 20+ years, I was sole income earner, 5th grade drop out, and supported a family with 6 children comfortability. Full commission sales in many different industries.

Now, I’ve built a business that controls the major market share in my niche of commercial truck parts. I’ve done it solo……..by making 100-150 cold calls 6 days a week year after year. Now, in year 8, I usually do 50-75, but sometimes still 100+. It’s harder to find business we don’t already have!

So great job! Now go pump up those rookie numbers and build the skill set. If you have not made 1000 calls yet, you don’t really know your number.

Is this about to be one of those “click this link to learn more” or “DM for how I did it” things that ends up leading to a paywall or sub wall?

    3. cold calling is the highest conversion channel IF you can connect to a live person and have something compelling to say

    4. Wow, so convenient you’re a fractional CMO and growth marketer (according to your linkedin). Just be honest with people and tell them what you’re pitching instead of making these vague bs posts on reddit.

    5. In other things that didn’t happen….

Your post has absolutely zero information to validate your claim.

    6. Dude, that’s insane! Cold calling feels like walking into a brick wall sometimes, but once you crack the code, it’s a game-changer.

I had a similar moment—hated it, then realized it’s all about the script and *confidence*. The minute you believe in what you’re offering, it’s like people can feel it through the phone.

Glad you hit that sweet spot. Keep dialing and stacking those wins!

Maybe I need to revisit my own script now… 😂

    7. Just enough information for the impatients to drool. You forgot to add “I made [money] in just [time]”

    8. The comments made me realise this BS sales pitch actually works on some people.

Shouldn’t there be rules against this kind of posts? It’s a disgusting manipulative waste of time.

Wait, sometimes it takes 7 calls to book an appt, sometimes 5, sometimes 3, sometimes one?

Yeah no shit. That’s sales….what is the so called magical epiphany here lol sometimes you convert a lot, sometimes less, sometimes none. Nothing groundbreaking here brother.
