I got married when I arrived at my first duty station, they gave me a barracks room because they told me I was going to become a GO bachelor because my husband was in another base they told him he needed to get out of the barracks ASAP and he received his backpay which that’s why I’m expecting mine, later on, I found out I was pregnant and they moved me out once I was 23-24 weeks pregnant, once I received my BAH I asked about my backpay they told me I wouldn’t receive it because I was a GO Bachelor which I never even agreed with that because a married person shouldn’t be stuck in a barracks room having no privacy with a spouse if he came to visit, now I am currently trying to fight it because that backpay could help me out with my baby that’s on the way. I've spoken to finance and they've told me the same thing

Is theyre anyway I can get help?

    1. Let me see if I’m understanding correctly.

You got married to another active duty member.

You were assigned to the barracks and your spouse was at a different base. You did not live together.

Recently, you were approved for BAH without dependents due to your pregnancy and moved out of the barracks.

You are asking if you will get a housing allowance for the period from when you got married until you were approved to move out of the barracks.

If that is correct, there is no backpay. Dual mil couples are treated as single for housing purposes when they are not stationed together or actually living together. Because you were provided with a barracks room, you don’t also get BAH.

There’s a whole section for dual mil couple housing allowances in DoD FMR, Volume 7a, Chapter 26.
