Recently i made a post regarding about my personal experience of how a conversation with a client of mine made me ponder how people around you, can play in molding you weather it is successful or an average joe.

    We had a great discussion in the comments section where majority of people describe that having a successful connection leads to your success as one gentleman said "Network = Net worth."

    While there was a section of people who agree with this notion but don't know how to surround yourself with Successful, rich and motivated individuals how to build that connection and hold that relationship.

    So people who have experience in this matter can tell how to surround yourself with these kind of individuals.

    These are my subjective thoughts.

I was able to get in touch with alot of people through my work as i do Web application development, application development etc so i was able to get into one to one meeting with alot of CEOs or directors, and because i was working on their projects i used keep in touch with them constantly well even after my project is done with them i still kept in touch through any means as i was in the area i visited their office had a coffee with them if they are available ask how is the software working any problem etc.

      Because i always try build connection with people if they ever need anything they would ask if i know someone for this thing so i was able to provide them as this favors system establish i get advices or references from them got invited to their parties or weddings.

      Second i found Ngos volunteering great as i get meet some amazing people their as well.

      Well after few years my circle grew automatically as i was able to get to know their friends of friends and they gave some great opportunities as i started my export import business as well because one of the friends of my one client used to do that and he helped me set that up as well.

      So few i made connections

    2. Honestly if ain’t already rich don’t bother. Create value first and attend whatever events to sell it.

      Provide value and make it your personal brand.

      Then do a lot of reach: publicly sharing knowledge and engaging with people who share knowledge in your domain.

      From there is word of mouth and connections. Doing events (meet ups, conference talks, podcasts, pr stunts) will attract people who you don’t have a connection to. Build your network from there.

      You can also do outbound – contact specific people directly. You need to have a good reason though. It helps to provide value to incentivise them to connect.

      There isn’t any advice to give as it is individual.

      Be a good person, have good manners. Be intelligent, be valuable, have something to offer.

      Those things alone will make you stand out and they will come to you.

      They see the ‘others’ and the fakes coming a mile off and avoid them.

      Work on yourself, it’s really that easy. And talk to as many people as you can.

      If somebody ever offers to help you or offers you an ‘in’, don’t get excited, just say a firm ‘thanks, I appreciate that…’ and get on with your next point.
