My husband is stationed overseas, and I live in NYC. Based on my zip code, our BAH is $4,404. We’re planning to buy a house in Houston, TX, but I would need to move there to use the VA loan. If I move, the BAH would drop significantly to $1,866 due to Houston’s zip code.

That’s a difference of $2,538 each month. Should I still move and buy a house in Houston? We can’t afford a home here in NYC.

Buy first home in Houston TX or not

Issue is his orders would have to be amended to allow you to move. His orders state you are in NYC.

    2. I have one of my juniors currently receiving bah for San Diego and his wife is living in the south. They bought a home with the VA loan and she’s currently there. He’s basically a geo bachelor currently but has the option to live on the ship at no cost to him.
It’s doable, but you would effectively be splitting your housing allowance. Do you have a job you could work in TX that would allow for him to continue to be able to afford a place to stay in NY? He can’t be living in the barracks and receiving BAH.

So w/o your husband you wouldn’t be able to sustain your own situation?

Anyway, no you shouldn’t move and buy a home w/o him. These are questions you ask him not the internet. Do you work? Our BAH, then all “I’s” after that

This why 50/50 is a thing. Can’t marry someone who can’t self sustain or bring something to the table.

You are not ready to buy a home
