This recent storm knocked down a pretty large tree that fell onto my house. It damaged the ridge of the roof and cracked some plywood underneath that damaged my ceilling and ac vent. The crack in the ceilling went down the room and also popped some screws in the drywall in thr hallway. I never had to file a claim before so I am curious if anyone had experience with this before if they'll just be replacing that section of the roof or entire roof?

Without photos or anything else nobody can tell – and even then, it’s gonna come down to the adjuster and the property.

Most roof replacements are based on square footage of the replacement; ie: the more damaged, the more that is replaced BUT that will depend on quality of the surrounding shingles and the overall roof condition.

For a hail event, as an example, it comes down to hail strikes per square – usually – so if there is x amount of strikes per square or overall across the roof, it’s a full repair over replacement.

In this situation, it will likely depend on what is needed for the full repair and what is best. If they can repair this section of roof for “x” but the rest of the roof is fine and recent, they may just replace that. If replacing the roof costs “y”, and the “x” replacement is a worse option for repair, they’ll do the whole roof.

It 100% depends on severity of damage and the adjuster.
