You’re on the right track with that thinking. Instead of looking at the barrier of entry, look at WHY there is a more difficult barrier of entry. That is going to be the best way to gauge the opportunity.

For example: selling electric vehicles has a very high barrier to entry for multiple reasons. One being you’d need an immense amount of capital. That in and of itself isnt necessarily a good reason to pursue it unless you have a jillion dollars already. Another barrier is that its incredibly difficult to produce the product. That is a great reason to pursue something.

Or a simpler version is, focus on a product or service that is difficult to produce because it requires more skill, or more problem solving to set up the supply chain, etc. In that case the barrier is largely just laziness or impatience from would-be competition. Those are the best opportunities if your resources are limited but you’re willing to work on problem solving longer and put most of work into getting your product established. Once you do it will be much easier to sell, you can price it higher for better margins, have less competition, and your customers/clients will be a little more respectful because they will need you more and presumably a more difficult product to produce will also be a better more valuable product.
