    1. Although not autonomous…

The fact they can still be moved around that way, was cool.

      Very fluid movements.

I’m gonna buy 3 of them when they’re out, and they will be the bartender, the DJ, and the flower girl

They all have different voices that sound like interns talking through a walkie talkie.

but how through a mocap suit?
that is still cool even if not autpnomous and has applications

    4. No shit. We have OpenAI trying to have fully autonomous bots and the showings they have had are very interesting but nowhere near bartender level. More like, “Pick up _____, Move _____” and it follows those commands. Not something this complex.

Can’t wait for my friend who thinks chatgpt is sentient to send me an article about this

    6. Every single clip and pic of these stupid things has them surrounded by Tesla badged dorks looking ill at ease. The thought bubbles would say it all…

      “This is so stupid”

“I wonder if people know how much we are scamming them”

“Is this the way real business works? Lying and misleading people constantly?”

“What’s with his obsession with cowboy hats?”

People defending Musk are missing the fundamental point that this is all DISHONEST. It’s intentionally misleading and intentionally dishonest. You can do mental gymnastics around that all day long, why the public needs to be misled, but it’s fucking dishonest and Musk should just say what the technological progress is instead of lying again and again and again.

    8. They’re 1000% being controlled by someone in a VR headset and hand tracking. Disney had this technology back in the 80s.

A „tech company“ with a market cap of $680 billion and an R&D budget of slightly less than $4 billion.
      ($96b revenue = 4.1% R&D spent)

Compare that to the legacy car industry:
Volkswagen: €51 billion market cap with an R&D budget of €21 billion. (€320b revenue = 6.5% R&D spent)

4% R&D – Pepsi has about that number!!

At least they’re robots. I thought they were dudes in Halloween costumes initially.

    11. That is not true, Musk’s Optimus Robots are so autonomous, that Tesla’s employees need to watch them so they don’t run away and take control of the world.

    12. Regardless as a mechanical engineer these are extremely impressive androids from a hardware perspective.

I agree it’s likely they’re doing teleop. I guess we can all be grumpy about a sin of omission or something? I don’t know if they ever stated these were AI or not though. If a discerning individual can tell they aren’t it doesn’t seem to extend beyond some showmanship.
