I moved into a home a couple months ago and tried to get renters insurance but was denied due to the previous tenant having renters insurance through the same company and filing a claim 2 years ago (claim wasnt paid out). Is this normal? I feel like im being punished for other peoples mistakes (wouldve lowered my auto insurance since i would be able to bundle)

If they say denied then you are denied. Even if they can fix it not worth your time to wait for an agent to see if there is a way to change the initial underwriting issue.
Call broker or call different company. Ask for renters quote and ask what the price would be for auto and renters. You might be able to save money with another company or just get a renters policy. They are normally super cheap so not missing out too much if you have different companies for auto and renters.
