An all-out energy war between Russia and the West threatens to deepen Europe’s energy crisis, putting pressure on governments to make interventions in the energy market to rein in soaring prices.

But it also puts the Kremlin’s revenues at risk and is meant to stem the flow of funds into its war coffers.

Moscow’s earnings from energy exports are expected to rise by 38 percent this year. Western capitals say they want to cut off that financial lifeline. The G7 have agreed to cap the price of Russian oil, and the European Union plans a cap on Russian gas prices, too.

In response, the Russian president said he will “freeze” European countries if the price caps are imposed.

    1. I am afraid that Europe will feel the victory and permanent occupation of Ukraine by "peacemakers" army. When it doesn't get out of hand. You used fear during covid, you abuse fear even now.

    2. This is a failure of the EU's especially Germany's energy policy that depends on a potential enemy, Russia. Germany mockingly ignored repeated warnings. It encouraged Russia's decision to invade Ukraine. It has continued to transfer money to the aggressor, killing many Ukrainians. It encouraged energy and price rises around the world, causing many people to suffer.

    3. "What happens in China, doesn't have a HUGE global impact". Why give bozos like this airtime? China is literally most nations largest trading partner by large margins. Do westerners really believe if every non western nation fell off the Earth, they would be self sufficient? If you couldn't see it before, there has never been greater proof of Western delusion about the world and their place in it than during this crisis with Russia/Ukraine and the standoff with China. Complete hubris and delusion.

    4. russia won't be controlling ukrainian grain much longer. russia is making pennies on the oil they are managing to find a market for. pipeline oil was delivered in 2-3 days. now it has to be shipped and that is taking 70 days. their house of cards is about to fall and their bluster is just that.

    5. You all forgot that everything is fair in love and war, didn't think before sanctioning Russia, and now moan about them stopping gas flow grow up west politicians..

    6. This winter will be hard for Europe, but it will manage. Russia has no chance of winning. You pathetic paid trolls should start looking for a new employer

    7. Germany is spending 65 billion Euro to subsidize energy for its citizens. All across Europe people are feeling the pinch of sanctions. This price cap on Russian energy is just doubling down on nonsense. Good luck in winter. Stay warm.
The correct policy would be to remove sanctions on every country including Iran and Venezuela. The increase in supply coming to market would reduce price for everyone including Russia.

    8. These ideas by he EU are unworkable and stupid. Jesus, I am much smarter than the leadership of the West. I cant wait to watch the winter months that are coming along with deaths of their own people at the hands of their Governments.

    9. It's a nonsense saying Russia is weaponizing oil and gas while the West is weaponizing sanctions on Russia.
I think all the think tanks and experts are required to mention "Russia weaponing Oil and Gas" in order to appear in MSM!!
I'll stop at 13:01. can't go further with this B.S.

    10. LOL I would love to tell my utility company that my neighbours and I are putting a price cap on the energy costs that we are will to pay. Sure… that will work… I am sure of it!

    11. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Russia in a gesture of goodwill retreated from Izium. What a generous army. First Kyiv, then Snake Island, now Kharkiv district❣ Ukraine must keep on encouraging them to show goodwill 🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦

    12. the winners are the big oil and gas companies..they are already crying out for bailouts from the tax payers yet they have made billions this yaer due to the steep rise in energy prices!

    13. Europe is winning this although they appear in the short term to be experiencing difficulty and have to scramble for energy. They have found alternative suppliers and will only need to bridge the gap for a year or two. Africa is the winner here. But the long term prospects of Russia look bleak. Sanctions take their toll over long periods of time. India has shown its hand. All this duplicity will come back one day and haunt them.

    14. We hate communist Party, china, russia, and North Korea and there allies…controlled only by a single leader who think they are God.. There leader are evil for eager to have a powerful military in entire world like bullying small country especially in asia.

    15. There is no country called friend or enemy, whether in war or peace. As long as there is mutual benefit, you are friends! If a country with a large or small military force abandons their common interests and fights, both will suffer! Therefore, let's give priority to humanity, not politics. Let's save precious human life. It's a matter of time, but all this war will end with an agreement!

    16. Did the UBS bloke really said that there isn't a proper definition of what a recession is? Ehhh…yeah, there is. It's 2 consecutive quarters of decline in a country's real GDP. How does he have a job…🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

    17. Weaponising energy or any economic essential is not new. The US supplies to UK brought them into the European wars in WW1 and WW2. What do you think made Japan attack Pearl Harbour in Dec 1941…? US limited Japan access to stolen Chinese coal.

    18. Let's call spade a spade. when the US and EU started sanctioning Russia, wasn't this the weaponizing of the US dollar? Was this part of the contract between Russia? Certainly not, right? So it is ridiculous to accuse Russia of whatever reaction like breaking the contract or weaponizing energy. EU is just subservient to the US, that is a fact and the US just wants to monopolize in supplying energy in Europe. Why don't you even report the US stealing 66,000 barrels of oil per day in Syria's oil field nor talk about the tons of gold that disappeared from Ukraine when the US ousted President Yakonovich in 2014? High-level thieves! Al Jazeera, you suck as a media outfit!

    19. Al, nobody hates America here. The point is that not all national interests should be pursued. When you see life and civilisation being threatened, you tread cautiously. Also, when you set very high moral standards live only by those standards or else your "good works" will be stained by the stench of hypocrisy.
