I have car insurance through progressive with the option to add roadside assistance and rental coverage. Does it make more sense to opt into those benefits or get a AAA membership?
Fom my experience (not Progressive) roadside assistance through insurance is really bad. Like lucky if anyone actually shows up bad. I use AAA and have had to use it a number of times over the years without any problems.

I would get an AAA membership and get like the plus level membership where it’s actually decent and usable. If you use the roadside assistance (Towing & Labor), with some companies it counts as a claim, so it would impact your rates and small $100-$200 claims can and will cause a non-renewal or non-favorable risk category. Getting an AAA membership will provide coverage across all vehicles but insurance is only good for that one.

With some of the insurance roadside assistance you pay first, the company reimburses you later.
OTH I recently cancelled my AAA Plus, saving $100 vs $15 for the insurance company’s roadside.
