I run a photography company in Paris that focuses on touristic photos. I started the company two years ago and it still is somewhat in it‘s baby shoes. The last two years went exceptionally well and I managed to build something that I am truly proud.

My whole life in this city is now at risk as the Olympic games are happening in Paris and the spike in prices scared a lot of tourists off. Most of our shooting locations also closed for the Olympics which doesn‘t help. The consequences of that is little to no bookings for my company which reduces my monthly income by 90% for the rest of the season if not for the whole year.

That wouldn‘t be such a big problem if I wouldn‘t have gotten my main camera stolen last year and had to spend 6k of money I saved up to re-buy the lost equipment. I am now 15 days away from not being able to pay rent and I feel truly hopeless as I didn‘t anticipate such a drop in bookings/income. I built a whole life here that is now at risk.

I am now looking for alternatives. I tried Fiverr/upwork to edit photos for other people but it is a very slow process that wouldn‘t be able to save me in time. I reached out to bars/cafés to get a job but nobody‘s hiring.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can manage to find remote work fast to save me from having to move back with my mom or any advice in general? Any advice would be appreciated!

Thank you for listening to my rant!

Can you pivot to weddings/graduations/other momentus occasions for locals rather than tourists?

Your shitty businesses practices are to blame, not the Olympics.

You run a tourist company, the Olympics are expected to bring 15 million people to Paris and this is somehow bad for your business?

You started your company 2 years ago, Paris was awarded the games in 2017. You should have been always planning what to do around the Olympics to boost your business. You lacked foresight to see what locations would be closed. You could have research how this impacted people in the industry in Rio, London, Athens etc and get an idea of what you need to do.

You’re pointing to external excuses but your problems are internal.

Uhhh there is about to be a huge influx of tourists with major $$$ attending the games. Pivot for the summer and offer your services to these people. They have money to spend if they are going to the games.

    5. Let’s talk. maybe I can help you see more clearly and see were there’s resources to tap in. I’ll give you one for free. No sales pitch.
