Hello! If I separate at 9 years from the Air Force and didn’t opt into BRS when we were presented to do I get anything when I separate, retirement wise? I didn’t opt into BRS because I was at the beginning of my career and I had no thoughts of leaving this early, I do really regret that now. But I just want to know if I get anything when I separate which is at the end of this year.

    Separating at 9 years.

    1. Best you can do is get a government job to count that 9 years towards retirement. Other than that.. Nothing. Put in a good case for disability and that’ll get you a check for the rest of your life.

Not in terms of retirement, no. That’s why they changed the system – because the vast majority don’t do 20

Not unless you’ve been putting into the TSP.

You get what ever you put into your TSP on your own accord and the post military benefits you get regardless.
