I’ve been at my first station since January. I’m an E-3 with no dependents and live in the dorms. I’ve been checking my LES and I was wondering why I’m getting BAS and meal deductions. Is that normal or would I have to see finance soon so I won’t owe the AF too much money?

    For reference:

    BASE PAY: 2377.50
    BAS: 460.25
    BAH: 7.80

    MEAL DEDUCTIONS: 394.50

I do eat at the DFAC so I’m a little confused why I’m receiving BAS AND meal deductions at the same time if I live in the dorms and have access to the DFAC which is minutes away from my dorm.

    1. That’s correct. After initial training, everyone gets BAS. Those who live in the dorms and are expected to eat in the DFAC have the cost of meals deducted (whether you eat them or not).
