I was having a graduation party and my cousin tripped on the water meter in front of my house. He fell inside of the water meter breaking it. We thought that the city would be able to fix it no problem, but after calling the city twice they let us know that is was a residential issue. After calling a couple plumbing companies they let us know that to replace the water meter it would be 2,300$. I talked to my cousin and he is reluctant to want to help pay for damages and even went as far to say to file a claim stating not only was the water meter broken but he sustained injury after falling into the water meter and would like compensation which he said he would then use to help pay for the water meter. The deductible is 2,600$ and I’m not even sure they would cover it. What should I do in this situation. I do have a problem paying for it seeing as I’m not the one who tripped over it, but it’s very apparent that my cousin is not going to help so I will pay for it. But, a claim has already been made. Should I withdraw my claim as to not have future high premiums?

Should I use my homeowners insurance?
