My background is technical, making enterprise B2B SaaS products (successful £multimillion exit). Now that I'm working on a "side project" product alongside my day job, I'm rapidly finding gaps previously filled by colleagues, largely in sales and marketing.

    For you other technical folks out there who have found reliable marketing/business partners or co-founders, how did you go about it?

      People simply do not get partnership. They want somebody to agree with every thought, support every questionable decision …no questions asked. In other words, they don’t want a partner — they want an imaginary friend.

      One big reason why a technical founder will make one hundred, five hundred, one thousand decisions …then seek out a partner to make it work. That’s not how that works.

      Frankly, the situation is exactly opposite of what a typical neo-maxi-zoom-dweebie expects. The successful exist practically cements all their preconceived notions in place.

      This is great.

      I work with technical founders who, for various reasons, have gotten to the end of their product development and have identified a gap between what they’re comfortable with – and getting their product or service (more often product) to market.

      Posting in a forum, or several, is a great way to find the people you want because they will often offer how they can assist and provide go-to-market before getting involved.
      Which allows you to keep them at arms length before getting too involved.

      Alternatively, with a partner, we are building something to streamline this process at the moment.

      It was meant to go live last Wednesday, but we have decided to wait on one more iteration before going ahead.

      If you would like some help closing gaps or hunting down a partner, I would be very happy to assist.

    4. Go through your personal network, mutual friends, colleagues, join local SM groups and then filter out and find the best match.

      I have been doing SEO for almost a year. Got some experience in Sales and Marketing from corporate jobs. Built a marketplace from scratch by myself to cater the needs of small businesses. Now to scale it up I’m looking for someone with tech skills.

      If you want we can work together and still brainstorm to generate more ideas. I’m not technical at all. I did it all by learning all these tech stuffs within 3 months. Just had SEO Knowledge. DM if you’re interested.
