So I have been in the entrepreneurial space for multiple years now but I’m realizing my lack of success can be mainly attributed to switching my focus (my service, deliverable, niche/industry, etc).

I started with real estate videography(what I love) then I went to paid ads, then copywriting (database reactivation via email & SMS), then ecom, SaaS, and more. As I learned a TON, I’m barely scraping by financially.

I’ve come back to real estate videography an added photography (in hopes to upsell videography) so my question is,

How would you go about acquiring clients in a smallish town?

    1. I think you have answered your question in the first line.

I would suggest focusing on what you already have. Try offering free photography to build a reputation and build a network and leverage both of them in the long run.

    2. paid ads, copywriting, email, sms

however, if whatever you provide is not in demand, then you’ll never get clients…

Focus on one thing, nail it, then scale. Don’t spread yourself too thin.

Oh, real estate videography! Now that’s an arena where you can provide true value and it’s great that you are pursuing what you love. In a small town, word-of-mouth and personal connections can go a long way. Start by reaching out to your personal network – friends, family, acquaintances. Let them know about your service and ask if they know anyone who could use it. Attend local events, gatherings and club meetings. You’ll get plenty of opportunities to rub shoulders with folks who might need your service or know someone who does.

If you haven’t attempted cold calling or emailing, it could be worth giving a shot. Approach local real estate agents or agencies and market your services to them. You could even offer a free trial, where the first photo shoot or video tour is on the house. Once they see the quality of your work, the subsequent ones could be for paid.

I would also encourage you to showcase your work online, even if it’s a small town. A well-designed website with your portfolio, or a social media account dedicated to your business can be an effective tool. Remember, the Internet is a great equalizer and you never know who might stumble upon your work and need your services.

And lastly, don’t forget about print. A small ad in local newspapers or community bulletins can lead to inquiries.

Keep honing your craft and persisting. Finding a sweet spot in business takes time, but it sounds like you’re moving in the right direction. Best of luck!

Stick with it for ten years now.

Work a full-time job on the side if you have to.
