Not sure how to go about this as this is my first time dealing with insurance myself. I currently have progressive coverage, the 6 months expiring tomorrow. They raised my rates by nearly double and I decided to switch companies. State Farm offered me a much better rate but the day the coverage starts is two days after the Progressive one expires. The local offices don’t open until 9am tomorrow and I do not want to pay for the full month but at the same time I do not want to lapse my coverage. Will Progressive reimburse me for the 28 days out of the month after I cancel?

    1. The lapse will likely cost you more than whatever you end up paying Progressive even if you don’t get a refund, but yes, you will almost certainly get a pro-rata refund based on the date of cancellation.

To avoid coverage lapse, consider extending Progressive policy by a month or request a prorated refund if switching. Contact Progressive to clarify refund policy and ensure continuous coverage during transition.

Yes definitively, you will get a pro rated refund. Unless North Carolina, which allows early cancel fees or not in the US.
