E-4 currently married with two children, if I get divorced but my wife keeps custody of both kids would I lose my BAH? Even if I have them as dependents? If so how can I pay child support? And would I have to go to the barracks?

    1. There’s a whole section in DoD FMR, Volume 7a, Chapter 26 on divorced Servicemembers.

In general, if you don’t have custody, you don’t automatically get BAH with dependents and can be in the barracks. If you’re paying child support, you may be eligible for BAH-DIFF.

If you have partial custody, you can request to stay out of the barracks. If that is approved and you are paying child support, you would get BAH with dependents.

This assumes your ex-spouse isn’t also active duty or married to an active duty member.
