We were driving in this back road that has two bends. On the second bend the person in front was turning right into the bend when a school bus came in, the driver might have thought it wasnt enough room, slowed down but stopped in the bend. I was about 3 mississippis away and pressed my brakes, however, my right wheel got into a pot hole which made my car jump, brake screeched and I tapped the car in front ending in rear ending. My front bumper has no damage, the car infront has scuffles and scratches, appears to have occurred from my front license plate. At the time the driver and partner (one person driving, partner on the phone, not in the car physically) asked if I wanted to pay upfront, I said no it has to go thru insurance. I know minor accidents shouldnt be called thru insurance, but I pay insurance for a reason, even if is minor, I still want to cover myself in anything may come up (yes, not concerned if my insurance goes up). Also, police appeared to be encouraging the other driver not to do a report, but I said no, if they want it fixed and me to pay it, it needs to go in insurance. Now I got anxiety that the person may sue me for whatever they can imagine, arghhh I have anxiety now. This happened in new jersey. I also have a dash camera, and video shows my fault, pot hole there, and 3 Mississippis in distance, screeching of my brakes cannot be heard due to my music. Also, driver okay, but reading all about whiplash and i just have worse anxiety now.

File the claim with your insurance and provide your carrier with the dashcam footage.
Your adjuster will work with the vehicle owner for repairs.
If that driver or passenger claim injuries after the fact a bodily injury adjuster will likely be assigned to address the alleged injuries.
This is what you have insurance for so don’t worry too much.
