I’ve read through this sub and online but I haven’t seen anything about a parent from another country.

My husband is bringing his father to the US (from the Philippines). His visa is already approved, just waiting on the passport. My husband wants his brother (AD army) to add their father as secondary dependent. My BIL is still living in the dorms, so FIL can’t go live with him until he’s added as a secondary dependent.

FIL cannot live with us permanently as we live on base and can’t swing it financially.

FIL has been supporting his self in the Philippines but will be coming here with nothing. Maybe a few dollars to his name. So he will be relying on his kids completely.

It looks like my BIL needs to prove he’s been providing 51% of FIL’s bills for a year. He hasn’t been. So does my FIL need to move here, my BIL pays the bills for a year, and then they can apply for secondary dependency? This is a couple years long process, right?

The main reason they want him as a dependent is so that he will have somewhere to live. I know about the Tricare plus thing.

I am not happy I’m in this situation, I’m the civilian wife just trying to figure this out for my husband.
