Recently started working on my credit for the first time with a new credit card, and as I was looking around the navy Federal app I find a debt of $600 from DFAS, and it was sent to collections/charge off around a year ago.
I was paid as active duty for 2 paychecks/1 month when I joined the reserves and was told to hold onto the money until I got contacted by DFAS to pay it back, but never got contacted in any way and now I see this on my credit report.
Can something like this make me lose my Top secret clearance? Can I get this fixed by paying that debt all at once, or what would be the best way to fix this? I'd like some recommendations before I call them and start working on this.
thanks in advance.
DFAS account sent to collections. Is my security clearance at risk?
