Moved after college, staying on parents’ car insurance?

Hi! After I graduated from college and was no longer living at home, I moved out of state to a city where I don’t have a car. I only drive when I’m at home and drive my mom’s car (listed on that policy as a driver) or drive a rental car and get the company’s insurance. How does the car insurance policy work here? I know that it is attached to a car, but I don’t own a car and don’t plan on owning one any time soon. Am I okay to remain a driver on my mom’s policy? Also, I would like to update my driver’s license to my new state of residence – will this affect anything with the insurance?

I’m not sure how else I would proceed here as I don’t need insurance since I don’t own a vehicle but I need insurance when I drive at my mom’s house or get a rental car.
