I'm active duty fleet returnee, currently in C School. My husband is active duty in a different branch, stationed around 2 hours away/175 miles from me. We try to see each other on weekends and hotel costs are undoubtedly high. So BAH would definitely be helpful.

I was told I am not entitled to BAH due to being a student/training status, which at first was fine. Rules are rules. But I met someone in the same training status/command as me who got approved for BAH. Our difference is her spouse is stationed around our area. I was under the impression that the reasoning is due to student status. Is this correct that I cannot request for BAH with this situation? Trying to look for instructions but I can't find any specific ones for students/training status. I have talked to my instructors who verbally just said no, I'm not entitled to BAH. I haven't tried submitting a special request chit.

    1. Are you PCS’d to school or TDY?  Dual mil members are treated as single for housing purposes when they are not stationed near each other. If you are PCS’d to your school and you are close enough together that you actually have a joint household and commute regularly, you can get BAH.

If you are TDY, you continue getting the allowances you were getting prior to school.

You’re not finding anything specific for members on student status because there aren’t any. There are some rules different for those in their initial training pipeline, but that won’t apply to you.
