Getting new insurance quotes and my fiancee and I are trying to combine auto insurances to get a better rate. Reached out to a third party agency and they said they can do that. Sick.

Got this really cheap quote from them that looked awesome, but it says that my fiancee and I are married.

I reached out to clarify again that we are not married yet, and won't be until next year. They said that it was fine and 'their underwriter told them to put it that way'. This was via email.

I'm kind of nervous about this. It's a cheap as hell insurance quote, but I can't let go of the anxiety that the insurance agent is straight up incorrect and if I get in an accident I won't be ensured. Any guidance here?

    1. Get it in writing from the agent/underwriter in some way, maybe as an email. If it comes back to bite you in the ass somehow, you have evidence of what you said versus the policy that was written.

The only thing that would happen is a coverage issue in which case you’d have some form of evidence. An adjuster can comment more on how likely this would result in a coverage issue, but I’m doubtful it would.

    2. It may be the company’s internal rules that they’re willing to rate an engaged cohabitating couple as married. The company I’m with did this for my spouse and I.

If you have it in writing that you’re not actually married and wanted to verify that part of the policy you should be okay.

    3. When will you be getting married? It’s very possible that the company you speak of just has a rule that allows that, or maybe the agent figured you were close enough to getting married that it made sense. (Like if you’re getting married in 2 weeks or something ya know?)

Like everyone else says get it in writing and just hold onto that somewhere safe Incase it ever comes back to you for some reason.

    4. You did your due diligence. If you have it in writing from your agent I wouldn’t worry about it.
