Homeless man attacked my car with machete at red light. Can I claim this?

Story is as short as it reads, obviously homeless man with machete rushes at my car, hits the side of my car (assuming he was trying to break a window) puts a large dent/gash in my front passenger door and a slice out of my back passenger door. Is this a thing i can claim? I called the police obviously because i couldn’t imagine what would happen if this guy came across someone on a bike or walking, but I’m sure they’ll never find him/I’ll never hear back. I don’t have any kind of running camera that would have caught this
