Can someone explain why my teen driver getting their permit is listed on my policy under "Excluded Drivers"? I have always heard that cars are insured, not drivers. However, this declaration specifically says we are not covered under the policy if my 15 year old is driving. furthermore, why is the coverage on a beater car that we bought my 18 year old higher than it is for my wife's 60k dollar car. seems like that's being jacked up based on driver as well

    1. You should probably ask your insurance. If they are excluded and get in an accident, ALL coverage is excluded. So no coverage for damage to your vehicle or to anything/anyone that you would be responsible for causing. Having young drivers is extremely expensive, so it is understandable the rate would be high.

Insurance DOES follow the vehicle, but that is more about the primacy of coverage when a claim is filed, not necessarily a driver. Drivers are usually rated for the vehicles they drive, as far as rates go
