Hey all,

Need some advice on how to proceed. On May 12th both of our vehicles sustained hail impacts that damaged the hood, top, and backs of both vehicles. Each vehicle sustained tail light damage. No glass was damaged. Because of the volume of claims, it wasn’t until May 24th that an insurance adjuster came out. About one week ago we received settlement checks in the mail, about $3500 for each vehicle. The problem is – we are moving out of state in 2 weeks and getting our vehicles into a body shop here and repaired in that time frame is impossible. We are going to take them first thing in our new state.

My question – should I deposit these checks? Is doing so accepting this offer as the final offer and no further funds would be sent should a body shop deem the damage more than $3500 to each vehicle? I’ve been reading about “Accord and Satisfaction” when it comes to these checks. I don’t want them to potentially get lost in the move nor have to be re-issued, although that’s not a huge deal. I’ve been lucky enough to never have to make an insurance claim on a vehicle before, so not sure how to proceed. Thanks in advanced.

Deposit the checks since they will likely have to be reissued in 90 days time if that much time passes and you didn’t mention how long the move will take

Keep the original estimates provided for both vehicles
Make your repair shop of choice (that you pick after you move) aware and provide them the insurance estimate
The shop, provided they aren’t incompetent will submit supplements to your insurance company via instructions for supplements that are on the estimate for additional damages found during tear down and repair
