Medically retiring soon and looking at 100% P&T. Will also be utilizing VR&E to go to college full time, and will apply for unemployment once I’m officially retired.

Once unemployment runs out I’ll probably be doing Uber/instacart as a side gig, I’ve got an EV so it’s not expensive to utilize it.

With the BAH rate for college and my disability pay, I’ll be looking at about 6k a month from that alone, plus an extra 1-2k from Uber and stuff. I have no debt, car is paid off, and rent is split with my sibling who lives in my apartment with me

What do any of you older guys recommend for my situation in regard to setting myself up for financial success?

I’ll be adding money to my Roth IRA and trying to max it out yearly (shouldn’t be hard especially with ubering on the side).

If I’m maxing out my Roth, and have about 4-6k in my HYSA as an emergency fund, what else would y’all recommend for investing advice or money making advice?

    1. How are you arriving at that “1-2k from Uber” estimate? Is that net, or gross? How many hours will you need to be working to achieve that? Have you researched the area you’ll be in to evaluate demand?

Is disability pay and unemployment “earned income” for the purposes of contributing to an IRA? Pretty sure disability pay isn’t–see [Pub 590, “What is Compensation?”](https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p590a.pdf).
