I'll be back in the US for a month this summer. The goal is to make sure if I get in a car accident or something while back in the states I can get emergency care without loosing my retirement savings (in the US) or whatever.

I'm specifically looking at World Nomads travel insurance.

Their requirements say (and the policy wording is available here:

You are most welcome to purchase a policy as resident of Japan as long as you meet the below requirements.
    * are a citizen or legal resident; and
    * have unrestricted right of entry; and
    * have access to long-term medical care, particularly should you require a medical repatriation under this policy; and
    * have your residential address as shown on your Certificate of Insurance.

This coverage will be for my wife and I. She has a valid work visa and I have a dependent visa, so we're both in Japan legally. I'm pretty sure that covers the first point.

I have access to long term medical care in Japan as I'm on the national health insurance plan.

My residential address I will make sure matches what I give to World Nomads.

I'm not 100% sure on the "unrestricted right of entry", I've googled and I'm pretty sure that means I can come and go legally on my visa, which I can, but it's not "unrestricted" in the same way that me being a citizen would be restricted.

I'm hoping somebody might be able to look at this and given an opinion as to whether I'd likely to be covered. I have contacted WorldNomads, but somewhat understandably they won't acutally tell me for sure if I'd be covered or not because (again, understandably) they don't want to expose themselves a legal situation where they misunderstand something I write and tell me I'm covered when I'm actually not.

Bonus question: WorldNomads is roughly $650 for 1 month for my spouse and I, for US travel. I've also looked at Safety Wings which has global coverage for less than half the price, as well as some IMGlobal which is also roughly half the price. All of these have bad reviews because, and I'm with them, everybody hates dealing with insurance and it's a nightmare clawing money back from them. That said if anybody has any sound advice as to a particular travel insurance company I should consider other than WorldNomads I'd very much appreciate it!

I’m a citizen of the USA, own a house in the US, but live in Japan. Trying to buy travel insurance for a trip back to the US, but want to make sure the policy I buy is actually going to cover me. WorldNomads
