So need a little advice not sure where to go. A few weeks ago my girls car was stolen from her apartment. I was there asleep at the time of the theft but I don't live there. She just got the news that her claim is denied because I was at her apartment at the time of theft but I'm not on her insurance. Is that common place? That doesn't make any sense to me. I have my own car my own insurance I don't drive her car ever what does me being at her apartment and not on her insurance have to do with anything?

Are they saying they believe you live with her & she lied about not having any roommates? If that’s the case it’s possible, some companies do require all residents of a household to be listed on the policy & if she lied when getting her policy that would be grounds for denying a claim. If you do not actually live with her, did they ask for proof of where you actually live?

It sounds like they think/have reason to believe that you live with her. If it can provide proof that you don’t, lease agreement, utility bills, etc, as well as proof of your own insurance, then they might cover the theft.

    3. No, this doesn’t make any sense at all. Regardless of who is living where, on or off the policy, if the car was stolen and has full coverage it should be a covered loss. The only exception I could think of would be if the garaging address and the actual address where she was living were not the same, and I even then a complete denial would be unusual. There’s something missing here.

      What company is this?

What a lot of people are saying is true about if you lie about who lives with you they could deny a claim on that ground, but I can’t see one of the major players doing this on a theft claim. Then again with costs skyrocketing like they are in the insurance market maybe they’re starting to apply the rules more strictly.

This sounds like some shit Fred Loya or The General would do, not State Farm, Geico, Progressive, etc.
