So to expand a bit more on my situation, my parents have been under my insurance for years since we lived together, I moved out a couple of years ago. Last month my dad got into a car accident while doing rideshare (i knew he was doing rideshare at this time) and we had issues with the insurance because we didnt have the endorsement on the policy. We also had an issue because the insurance company found out we no longer lived in the same household and apparently cannot be on the same policy, which i did not know was an issue

The company gave me until July 6th for my parents to find new insurance and remove them from my policy. They're in the process of quoting different companies and finding new insurance but what i didnt know is that my dad was driving rideshare again and just got into an accident this morning. Now i told him not to use our policy and to use the rideshare's policy for his accident but the other party already made a claim on our insurance.

I dont know if the crash report will include any mention that he was on his way to pick up a rider or not, but i dont want to risk trying to hide this from the insurance then causing myself issues getting blacklisted or something and having trouble getting insured in future over this.

How do i go about handling this? Should i call the insurance and explain my situation and that i didnt know he was doing rideshare? Will this impact me negatively in future even if he's not on my policy moving forward?

Also we're in Florida if that matters for laws and regulations and what not.

Dad got in accident doing ride share without my knowledge, no rideshare coverage on insurance. What do i do?

    1. You just file a claim on the rideshare insurance. Your carrier will deny the claim that was made on the policy due to ride share, then they will have to pursue under the rideshare carrier.

You have to be honest with your insurance. With a recent ridesharing claim and underwriting being involved in the policy already, it’s very likely that they will be taking a deeper look into this. You don’t want them to find out about ridesharing from somebody else. You definitely don’t want anybody to lie about the usage of the vehicle either. Coming clean after an investigation starts doesn’t look great.

Tell your insurance company. They will make their coverage decision. Report the accident to the insurance company for the ride share service. Make sure your insurance has that information and they’ll usually pass it along to the other person.

    3. The ride-share company should cover any liability, but your father is out of luck if he is at fault and was anticipating an insurance company repairing his car.

Your parents need their own policy today. Literally today. Get them off your insurance. Your dad continuing to get in accidents is going to jeopardize your standing with your current carrier, especially since you’ve already broken theirs policies by concealing the fact that drivers had vehicles garaged at addresses not listed accurately on the policy. Don’t be at all shocked if Underwriting decides to non-renew you at the end of your current term due to your concealments.
