I lowered my deductibles today because of recent storms in the area making me nervous, but after several hours being parked in the sun, a small chip that I got earlier today and thought wasn't going to be an issue has spread considerably.

I want to make sure that when I get it repaired tomorrow, it is repaired under the old, higher deductible because I don't want to commit insurance fraud lol. How do I go about this, just call my insurance company before the claim is filed? Is this going to cause me any problems?

Will it cause me any problems to backdate my windshield repair to a previous deductible?

Nah cause you’re being honest saying the higher deductible applies. It’s the other way that would cause scrutiny. 👍

      Update:

I’m such an anxiety riddled dork lmao

I was trying to get quotes and put my info into Safelite and it told me “hold on while we verify your deductible” and I was like holy Jesus I’m going to jail

So I called State farm and explained the situation to the 3rd party glass agent and started a claim for YESTERDAY just to make sure I was clear that I wasn’t trying to get it on the new deductible. Then I emailed my agent and explained myself again 😭

Which deductible are you referring to? Collision, Comprehensive or Glass? Each can and will have a different deductible. In some states, by law, there cannot be a deductible for windshield glass.

The only way to know is contact your agent and ask.
