I don't know if dental insurance is worth it. My dentist informed me I had to pay $1500 on top of what I already paid for an implant because my dental insurance denied my claim – the insurance company needs proof the tooth was extracted before they pay their share. As in they need the bill where I paid for the extraction.

    This boggles my mind.

My molar was pulled over 2 decades ago. That dentist is long gone. The tooth above was growing down into the space and I was getting bite problems.
Doesn't an X-ray from my current dentist qualify as proof? Why do they need proof from the actual extraction?

Do they worry my dentist is implanting a tooth where one doesn't need to be? Or is it another way to get out of paying?

I'm beginning to think dental insurance is pointless.

Should I bother with an appeal?

    Thank you.

    1. These are great questions for your dental insurance if you haven’t talked to them.

Sometimes the doctor isn’t submitting the right records to the insurance. I’ve never done that kind of review, so I can only speculate.

    2. Dental insurance doesn’t cover genetically missing teeth. I believe that is the issue you are having to prove didn’t happen.
