So I fcked up and got into a car accident without insurance- it lapsed in coverage. This is Michigan. Police determined it was not my fault, but both cars were totaled. I rolled like 5 times. But because it’s Michigan, I’m automatically at fault by virtue of not having insurance, is my understanding.

I got a subrogation letter from a third party claiming they were appointed by the insured insurance’ company and that I have 15 days to respond to them or they will pursue further collections. Also says the damages are “pending” in the letter (I’m assuming this means they got a medical claim).

I know this is all monumentally stupid. I’m 26 and I’ve had insurance almost all my life except for a few months I lapse in coverage because I’m a broke college student working full time.
I have no seizable assets, I live in an apartment.

Everyone I know is telling me not to respond, which I think is not good. Any advice from this community would be appreciated . Thanks

Michigan is no fault for property damage unless the other vehicle was parked. If the other vehicle was driving, they are capped at a $3k mini tort claim. If the other vehicle was parked they can seek all of their damages and you’re boned. Were the other vehicles parked or nah?
