I have had State Farm for 15 years, I have a 2018 Buick encore, and I drive less then 200 miles a month. they have doubled my car insurance in the last 3 years from $80 to $150, I continually lower my policy to lower my premium and all they have to say to me is “there’s nothing I can do”. I’m about to just get rid of my car and Uber everywhere. Ubering is cheaper than owning a vehicle. Someone please help me!!!!

I can’t afford my car insurance anymore… please help!!!

    1. Which state do you live in? Maybe you could use a very cheap and easy to maintain 50cc scooter and commute to work on side streets if it’s close by. Insurance for those usually runs you $70 a YEAR

    2. There’s so many insurance companies out there.

Call an agency near you and ask how many companies they carry.

      If it’s less than 10 I wouldn’t bother.

More than 10, it may be worth it to get a quote.

You can call progressive and if they’ll tell which company they represent that has the lowest price.

You can try a company that offers pay per mile depending on your state. Allstate has mile wise and you pay a small daily amount plus an amount per mile. It would probably benefit you since it seems like you don’t drive much.

Try other providers or call you current one and try to cancel, maybe they offer you a deal to keep you.

If it makes you feel any better my car insurance in Finland is $70 a month and road tax another $70 a month.

I had the same issues with Geico and then State Farm. Your situation of low miles may be good for what I found and am now using . There are a few companies that have a low base rate, then charge a nickel a mile.
My base rate is $49 a month and .05 a mile. In your case the monthly cost for two hundred miles $59 dollars total if you had same base rate.. For sure, your base rate will be different based on history, age, region etc. But in my case I save $40 a month and sometimes more over the big insurance companies who sponsor stadiums and run superbowl ads. Keep in mind I do NOT get monitored at all. I send in a picture of my odometer when prompted once per month. No apps or gadgets. To save mileage I use a ebike and escooter for short errands.
Search for ‘Mile Insurance’ and you will find mine and at leat one other.

    6. SF did it to me too. Had them for over 25 years, paid on time and no claims.Shop around, Allstate quoted me $150 a month cheaper, no kidding.

Track your usage and costs for a month… then compare what an Uber will cost. That should tell you if you will really see any savings with an Uber.

Your car is 6 years old. If your car does not have a loan on it, you can look into dropping one or both comp & collision coverage.

Meanwhile, your credit score does impact your property insurance premiums. Has your credit score dropped recently?

      > [How your credit score raises your premium](https://www.consumerreports.org/cro/car-insurance/credit-scores-affect-auto-insurance-rates/index.htm)

      – What is your vehicle current worth?
      – What would a new or used car cost if you had to replace it?

With those numbers in hand…get your current insurer to quote you prices with the following options:

      – [raise your comprehensive & collision deductibles](https://www.kbb.com/car-advice/insurance/choose-car-insurance-deductible/); $1000-$1500 deductible should give you a substantial reduction in premiums
      – eliminate the collision coverage but only if you can afford to repair any collision related damage or vehicle replacement if the collision causes the vehicle to be a total loss.
      – eliminate the comprehensive coverage if you feel you can repair any non-collision damage like hail damage, theft or a neighbors tree falls on your car.

    8. With State Farm (I have them) there are two things you can do to help your premiums. #1 Install the mobile app (goes in your car) and it connects with your phone

#2 Do an online driving safety course (about 8 hours) . Those two things get you a 10-15% discount.

State Farm had a huge loss last year and of course as a for profit company with stockholders, the rest of us pay the price.

    9. Shop around. I had State Farm for over 5 years with 2 cars and now my home insurance. They came down 2 years ago when I added my home but my most recent renewal they wanted to charge me the same rate for my Civic that they charged when it was brand new 3 years ago and being driven about 15k miles/year. Now it barely goes 7k and is again: 3 years old now. Tried to charge over $2000 for 6 months or $338/month for a 2021 and 1987 that hardly goes anywhere. Progressive had the same coverage for right at $1000 for 6 months, so now I’m getting petter coverage way cheaper. No use complaining, just switch. Loyalty doesn’t mean anything.

You cannot afford to drive unfortunately. Very sorry, but it is simply true.

    11. Isn’t State Farm among the most expensive carriers? So around, get quotes from different companies.

Dropping limits to save money could bite you in the 🍑 if you get into a bad accident and are underinsured.

I highly doubt ubering is less than driving. One Uber ride can fill up your tank.

I am very concerned that your agent would lower your liability limits to help you save a few bucks a month. I would rather you leave my agency than to lower your limits and put others at financial risk.

If you’re very confident that you can save money with Uber, cancel your plates and request a total suspension to avoid a lapse. Highly doubt you will do that though.
