Background:

I went to Basic Training in 2014, but didn’t complete training and was discharged a few months later.

2021 I enrolled into ROTC and did the SMP Through the Reserves.

Commissioned into the Active Duty Army in May2023 and immediately went on Active Duty orders.

Through that whole journey I was never informed that I would need to opt into the BRS. I was told that it was automatic, however, I just recently found out that because I am technically “prior service” I did in fact need to opt in.

The opt in period was sometime In 2018, but I was not in the Army so I never even got wind of the BRS migration. In ROTC my cadre never said anything either, presumably because it was 2021 and non of the cadets were prior service ( I guess I technically am, but at the time I never considered myself to be prior service) so again, I was told all about the BRS and didn’t think much about it.

Hell, I wasn’t told anything, at MEPS, at my reserve unit, in ROTC, when I volunteered for CST after commissioning, or while in processing at my unit.

I’ve looked online, and can’t find anything that could help. All I could find was some Memo from 2019 listing some Civilian as the POC, but emailing him just shoots back an error, presumably because he is no longer on Global, or possibly even an employee.

Anyone have an idea on where to start, or who to call/email? Because the folks at S1 or finance don’t have the slightest clue.

    Thanks.

    BRS Hardship Extension.
