    1. Makes sense. I worked at a Taco Bell and the store would run inventory every night and compare it to the sales to determine if they used too much food that day. If they did then they would “make up” the difference the next day. I wouldn’t be surprised if other restaurants didn’t watch their inventory as much.

This is like the bath & bodyworks guy but instead of counting people they’re counting portion sizes

The problem is they used to encourage routinely over-portioning and now the opposite is true. But hey, the free social media attention is nice.

    4. Read this first as “bowel weight” and was impress with how thorough they were.

There’s also a Youtuber who ate 30 days of Chiptotle and recorded online vs in-person weights, different store weights, bowl vs burrito. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZe5k95U-UY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZe5k95U-UY)

Basically the result is if your a chad who orders in-person, you’ll get a fat bowl, but if you’re a dweeb who orders online, you get less. Makes sense to me, no one will complain about getting stiffed on an online order and will keep ordering like paypigs. Checks out.

Sounds like they’re optimizing portions. BULLISH imo. Literally can’t go tits up saving operating costs.

This is fine. Americans have been preparing for times like this for decades by bulking up. I think we will be able to weather the famine

    8. Ok_Flounder59 on

As an aside, any questions about Amercian dominance should be cast away. Not only is one of our principal cultural issues right now the consistency of a fast food chains portions….we have the resources to put serious analysis behind it, lol

    9. Did these idiots really say the lightest bowl was ~3 standard deviations from the median?

    10. Bojangles315 on

order them online to compare. Chipotle started going downhill fast during covid. it’s absolute shit now. I use to eat it everyday at work. I won’t be going back

    11. Note – the analyst weighs over 250 lbs, and will now need to eat 3 of these burritos for lunch instead of just 2.

    12. I’m shocked they haven’t implemented process controls and standard work for making buritto bowls. The variance here is actually incredible.

    13. 1PrestigeWorldwide11 on

This is the slimiest chart ever. Y Axis goes from 12 to 28 instead of 0 to 28 to make the variation seem way worse. Then plots the bowl sizes in order left or right highest from lowest to imply subconsciously the passage of time in a downward trend on bowl size to what is really random variation.   And the whole concern with chipotle has been overall size decrease not some random variation which would be obvious

I wonder if the bigger portion samples, gave the person making the burrito “the look” in order to get more (per the Chipotle CEO).

    15. planefindermt on

This is why you portion food by weight, not by volume. Chipotle dishes by volume and of course they are going to have exceptional variation.

    16. Ferkinator442 on

lets get something straight right fucking now…a pile of shit in a bowl is NOT A FUCKING BURRITO!

    17. Obamasdeadcook on

this has been known since 2020 and has been posted several times

Nobody cares and they keep moving on up

    18. ClearlyCylindrical on

Jfc, just use a histogram. You’ll find it’s a normal distribution like 90% of things.

    19. The question not answered here: what is the correct portion size supposed to be?

    20. If you can’t manage the burrito line to maximize your meal that’s on you. Only idiots order online.

    21. While I agree there should be consistency, I am not going to have them measure each spoonful.

Also, consider that if they give me a smaller portion, they are actually doing me a favor because I shouldn’t be consuming such large portions in the first place. So which is better?
