I’m tired. 42. I’m tired from the disease I have.

No debt aside from 109k 21 year mortgage at 3.75% (I pay 900 a month) 80k in the bank. 16k in the TSP. Pension coming in 12 years from my current job will be 2k since it will be early retirement.

Currently I make 61k as a teacher and 54k annually for dv pay. 115k total.

Expenses are low. Since getting 100% I am able to save more.

Is quitting my job a bad move? We spend about 3k to $3,500 a month.

What keeps me working is knowing if I get sick and pass away that by working I was able to increase our savings for my family. I do have a good life insurance plan but yall understand my concern right? I want to give them a good life.

Any 100% DV and don’t want to work anymore?

    1. So yeah, theoretically you could stop working. Worth or not is up to you. If you do stop working, I’d consider a low key part time job so that you can have a little breathing room but also reduce your workload.

If you stick it out, just make sure you aren’t literally working yourself to death. 12 years for a second pension isn’t “that long” but it is definitely still long. If your disability makes life hard, then 12 years of grinding through that could leave you broken and unhappy. Regardless if it’s for your family or not.

But if you’re just going through a slump right now, give it a little time to think about things and see how you feel.

36-42k in spending plus 10k on the mortgage yields 46-52k. If you quit, you’d have only the 54k. Is it possible… Sure. With a decent probability of success and what you want? No.

Have you considered part-time? Have you considered looking at other school teaching or admin jobs?
