I'm not sure how else to explain this but will give it a try.
My ex and I divorced in 2017 with agreement for me to pay 39% of my military retirement to her. On the first of each month since, I've transferred that amount to her. Over the years, I agreed to increase the amount periodically because it does increase annually. All of this is recorded with my bank transactions to her.
She never filed a request for DFAS to have the amounts deposited directly.
She is now threatening me saying I owe her $30k in back pay due to what she thinks I owe her. Basically, she's messed things up in her life and needs $$ and is going after me.
Is it plausible that she could file for payments from DFAS for back pay or will they just start the payments from the day she files?

I’m not seeing anything about retroactive payments at [DFAS’s USFSPA page](https://www.dfas.mil/Garnishment/usfspa/faqs/). They have 90 days to start the payments once a complete application is submitted.
How many years were you married to her with concurrent service??? If it is not over 10 years of marriage WITH concurrent service than DFAS will not pay directly.
