A Soldier in my unit mentioned in casual conversation to myself and a few others that there is a way to get the registration fee waived for a new car purchase if you are on active duty orders. We are all deployed and on Title 10 orders currently, and many people I'm with are thinking of purchasing new cars when we return home, so this piqued interest, however, nobody seems to be able to find the regulation or law that states this. Has anyone heard of this and can you validate it or point me in the direction for info? For context we are all Army National Guard.

Waived car registration fee for military? Is this true?

Yeah you don’t have to pay excise tax. However for a new car purchase, you will still pay sales tax on the vehicle.

    2. You realize that there’s 50 states with 50 different ways of handling vehicle registration?
