Is this all with the same company and just needing to be re-written in the new state? If so there is a chance they might be willing to backdate. Otherwise if it’s a new company in the new state I would say absolutely no chance a company is willing to put themselves on a claim with no history with that insured.

It’s still probably minimal in the first situation but I’ve seen carriers do this before. At this point you just have to wait. It’s taking so long because shit takes awhile. Numerous people are going to be involved in this decision, and while this is a huge deal to you, it’s just one more thing on their task list to schedule a meeting about for next week that gets moved because one of the people who needs to sign off got sick, or had something else come up, etc.

Edit: just re-read where you said “new company” oof, that’s probably no chance. But since you DO have one car already with them and the home….maybe the tiniest sliver of hope?

Be very glad there’s no medical bills also involved with this. If the other driver has insurance, once it is finalized that you have no coverage (if it goes that way) and they had collision or uninsured motorist then their company will pay for their vehicle. They will reach out to you to collect what they had to pay for your actions. You can probably work out some sort of payment arrangement with them but to be honest, I don’t know how often that actually happens?

As far as a lawyer goes…the cost to hire one would probably be more than what they can save but you can reach out to your state’s bar association and see if they have one they can refer you to for a 30 min consult. Most have pretty cheap rates or free for those things.

    2. Be glad they’re even considering coverage. This is going to have to go thru several layers of approval. You can do nothing but wait.

If you have to pay out of pocket, you be responsible for whatever their insurance pays out for their damages, whether it’s repairs or a total loss, as well as a rental and any medical costs they incur.
